
Nikolaos Lianos

Founder
Dr. Nikolaos Lianos is an architect with extensive academic and professional experience in the field of architectural history, restoration, and conservation. He studied Architecture at La Sapienza University of Rome (1971–1975) and went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Restoration of Monuments (1978–1981), followed by a Ph.D. in the History of Architecture and Urban Planning (1987–1992) from the same university. He also completed advanced training in Architectural Conservation at ICCROM–UNESCO (1977–1978).
From 1978 to 1999, he served as Chief Architect at the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, contributing significantly to the preservation of Greece’s architectural heritage.
From 1999 to 2021, he was a Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), where he also served as Director of the Faculty (2018–2021). He founded and led the Laboratory of Architectural Design and Construction “Theory of Forms and Study of Conservation,” focusing on the intersection of design, heritage, and material investigation. Since 2021, he holds the title of Emeritus Professor at DUTH.
He is currently Vice President of ICOMOS Greece (since 2012), actively contributing to international discourse on heritage conservation.
His academic and professional interests center on architectural design, the restoration and reuse of historical monuments, and the conservation of both underwater and terrestrial heritage. His expertise extends to vernacular architecture, archaeological research, and the documentation of built heritage through methods such as aerial photography, photogrammetry, and 3D laser scanning. ruins, findings from recent excavations and complex ancient structures that were part of known or unknown archaeological sites, both on land and at sea.

Effimia (Melita) Lianou

Born and raised in Athens, Effimia ( Melita) is an architect educated at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-La Villette, with a specialization in the restoration and rehabilitation of monuments from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
Since 2020, she has been professionally active between Athens, Paris, and Kavala, working across a broad spectrum of projects—from the documentation of archaeological sites and listed buildings to advanced photogrammetry and 3D laser scanning, with a strong focus on digital heritage documentation.
Her portfolio includes restoration and renovation projects of buildings with distinct architectural character, such as neoclassical, post-war, Ottoman, and traditional structures, combining historical sensitivity with cutting-edge technical methodologies.
She has worked with numerous architectural firms in both Paris and Athens and has collaborated with major organizations such as LAMDA Development and Intrakat (as part of the Hellinikon redevelopment project), as well as with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus.
Alongside her PhD research at the Department of Architecture, Democritus University of Thrace, she teaches in the university’s postgraduate program, offering courses in digital documentation as part of the academic staff.
